I have noticed that sometimes, when we approach life's most challenging situations, we are unable to utilize our creative, intelligent and loving nature to find options and choices. But when we are listened to with care by a therapist who notices and validates the strength we've displayed in overcoming difficulties in the past, we are able to discover new problem-solving skills in this moment, skills that enable us to figure out our own needs and get them met, allowing us to become more supportive and connected to others. We can then begin to develop a deeper sense of trust both in ourselves and those around us.
As we learn to respond to structure and support, we feel the calm and comfortable state of being assertive. We are caring for ourselves and accepting others exactly as they are.
